
Now having its headquarter in Ankara, CGET has 6 main branches in Adana, Bursa, Istanbul, Izmir, Kocaeli, and Trabzon 3 regional divisions(Samsun, Eskişehir and Gaziantep), 44 branch offices in different cities, 3 branch offices in different boroughs of Turkey, 30 company representatives, 11 University representatives and 6 foreign representatives ( 3 in USA, UK, Canada and Germany ) which serve for a total of 3178 (As at December,31 th 2006) active members and 513 members in private sector for geophysical engineering. CGET was the first Corporate Member of the EAEG and an Affiliate of the EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers) having representatives in the councils of both associations before the merger of the two into EAGE. Recently our Chamber became a section of the SEG ( Society of Exploration of Geophysicists). CGET has also established close relations with the geophysicists from many Balkan, East European and CIS countries.
Being a legal organization founded by law number 6235, CGET represents the profession in governmental affairs and gives advise on legal matters concerning its members. It submits opinions and proposals to commissions established by the government through its representatives.
Our Chamber (then, the Geophysical Association), also organized the 42nd EAEG Meeting and Exhibition in İstanbul in 1980. “The 1st International Geophysical Congress of Kazakhstan” held in Almaty between 15-19th May 1995. The Congress was co-organized with Geophysical Society of Kazakhstan.
CGET has already organized ISTANBUL-97 International Geophysical Conference and Exposition together with SEG and EAGE.
It has played an important and leading role in the establishment of Balkan Geophysical Society (BGS) which has come into life in 1993. CGET also organized second BGS Congress and Exhibition which held in Istanbul in 5 - 9 July 1999 during the its Presidency period 1997 - 2000. BGS has already organized Geophysical Congress and Exhibition held in Atina 1996, Sofia 2002, Bucharest 2005 together with SEG, EAGE, EGU (European Geosciences Union) and AGU (American Geophysical Union).
CGET has already organized the 17th International Geophysical Conventions and Exhibitions in Ankara between 14-17 November 2006. The Turkish and foreign delegates had opportunity to observe the latest developments in the fields of geophysics in Turkey and the world at the technical sessions and exhibitions during the convention.
International firms and oil and gas companies in our country were to come together, to provide information each other, to discuss problem, to probe political and economical influence of oil and gas sector and also in order to provide to discussion Turkish International Oil and Gas Showcase and Conference-TUROGE 2007, CGET and Turkish Association of Petroleum Geologists are organized in Ankara between 27-29 March 2007.
CGET has already organized the biannual 16th International Petroleum and Natural Gas Congress and Exhibition of Turkey-IPETGAS 2007 in Ankara between 29-31 May 2007, jointly with Chamber of Petroleum Engineers of Turkey and Turkish Association of Petroleum Geologists.
First step to engineering, application and reporting project, which was a camp and a work shop held in Çanakkale, was organized between 28th April-5th May 2007, with the support of Çanakkale 18 Mart University Geophysical Engineering Department.
Disaster and Earthquake and Geophysical Congresses and Panel Discussions were organized in several regions and cities of Turkey.
The preparations are still on progress for the “IVth Geophysical Engineering Students Congress”. The congress will be held between 8-9th November 2007 in Trabzon.
On behalf of Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects, our chamber will be in charge as a secretariat for the “Disaster Congress”, which will be held between 5-7th December 2007; and “Geothermal Congress” that will be held between 21-24th November 2007.
CGET has three periodical publications. Jeofizik is a semiannual scientific and technical bulletin published in Turkish or English with abstracts both in Turkish and English. Jeofizik Bülteni is an informative bulletin published three times a year in Turkish. “Journal of the Balkan Geophysical Society”, scientific and technical bulletin, which is published by Chamber of Geophysical Engineers.
Our Chamber also publishes technical books from time to time to aid the development of the science of geophysics and geophysical education in Turkey. Professional Education and Certification courses were organized, and the lecture notes were published as 3722 paged publication. There were 5 courses in year 2006, and 19 in year 2007.
